During this workshop, librarians from Texas A&M University will showcase a collaboration with Texas A&M University's Money Education Center. As part of a new campus initiative focused on increasing student financial literacy, a personal finance class was created. As part of this class, librarians present a session on financial literacy through an understanding of advertising and consumerism. Audience members will leave with a better understanding of ways in which departments can collaborate with librarians to support student success through financial literacy, as well as specific ways that librarians can offer help to students.
Participants will:
Be able to articulate the importance of libraries in helping students develop financial literacy
Be able to identify the benefits of collaboration with outside departments in order to explore non traditional aspects of student financial wellness
Be able to adapt programmatic examples and best practices in order to fit their own institutional needs.
